How to draw anthro heads
By Kelly | June 4, 2007
A quick example of how I approach heads:

It helps to think in terms of 3D objects. The main mass of the head is a sphere, with the attached muzzle and ear shapes varying depending on which species you’re trying to depict.
I’ll start with the rough sphere and some crosshairs on top to set the angle and position of features I’ll draw later.
Then, on top I’ll sketch out the form of the eyes and eye sockets, and the muzzle form below. Eyes are usually placed above the center crosshair. A good rule of thumb is that the eyes are spaced one eye-width apart.
After that I’ll add in other forms like cheek-fluff and hair, and start working out details.
The main objective here is to figure out form and pose before adding any details!
More Examples
These are old but should give you some idea how I approach different species:

great tutorial. Drawing anime or manga is one of the things i like getting into, though im only really a beginner. anthros was one of the things ive been looking at. compared to others, i think yours are the best since they look more on the cartoonish side. but can you show how to draw the heeas in the different views like front, side, and 3/4 view? that would be really helpful!

Very good tutorial, I’ll probably still suck terribly at drawing furry heads (I can do profile views, but it’s 3D or facing forward heads I can’t draw) after I try it, but still…very nice tutorial.

can you show how to do a bear,
i’m trying to draw myself and i think of myself as a bear,
panda bear,
because i’m chubby,
every drawing of furries are mostly skinny so i’d like it if you could help with a chubby-er furry.

I was wondering if somebody could make a tutorial of drawing EARS!! I find them somewhat difficult… you know, making them look fluffy and lively and stuff…
AMAZING SITE! LOVE IT!

Yeah, thx for the help, I always saw fox anthros with short snouts and I am kinda insecure, and I think I need to adjust my fursonas snout length/size (I am a red fox).
